Stiris Research Inc. announces continued collaboration with North American biotechnology company on their Zika Virus trial
Stiris Research (“Stiris”) an entrepreneurial clinical trial management company focused on the management of Phase I-IIIB trials, today announce it has entered into a Master Services Agreement (the “MSA”) with a North American biotech company to provide clinical research services on their upcoming Zika virus trial.
“Being given the opportunity to work on a second program with this company is both exciting and rewarding. The Zika virus has seen a rise since 2015, especially in the Americas, with a lot of media coverage and concern for those travelling to sun destinations from North America, especially for women of child bearing potential. We look forward to working on a potential treatment option for this infection, as there are no current treatments available,” said Amanda Carrera, Vice President, Stiris Research Inc.
Zika virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that was first identified in Uganda in 1947 in monkeys. It was later identified in humans in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific from the 1960s to the 1980s, with rare and sporadic cases of human infections. In 2015, Brazil reported an association between Zika virus and microcephaly. Outbreaks and evidence of transmission soon appeared throughout the Americas, Africa and other regions around the world. To date, 86 countries and territories have reported evidence of mosquito-transmitted Zika infection (www.who.int).
